Consider dedicated hardware if…
You want a purpose-built touchscreen and prefer buying the screen and its software together. Skylight and Hearth offer their own feature sets; Roostwall is not a feature-for-feature replacement.
Before you switch
Can I use an old iPad or TV?
Roostwall runs in a browser. A tablet or TV with a compatible browser can show the wall; a monitor needs a connected device to run the browser. Very old devices may not support everything, so try your actual screen during the free trial before buying mounts or accessories.
Can I bring my existing calendars?
Connect Google Calendar and choose which calendars appear. You can also add supported iCal (.ics) feeds, including published feeds from Apple or Outlook. Imported calendars are read-only on Roostwall; edit those events in the original calendar.
Do I need to pay for Skylight Plus to use its calendar?
No. Skylight offers basic features without Plus. Its optional $79/year Plus subscription adds premium features. That is separate from buying the Skylight screen.
Is Roostwall free forever?
No. Roostwall offers a 30-day free trial, then $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year. You can manage billing and cancellation in Settings → Plan.
How does my screen get access to family events?
The screen shows a pairing code that a signed-in family member approves in the app. You can revoke a paired screen from Settings → Screens. An optional backup PIN is also available.
